Frequently Asked Questions
Q Is it safe to heat the baby food in the Microwave?
A We reccommend that for the individual cubes you place them in a suitable microwave container. All of our meal pots can be microwaved in their own container. Our Individual meal containers are BPA and Phthalate free and safe for use in the mocrowave, and can also be washed in the top shelf of the dishwasher.
Q How long should I microwave the food for?
A Once de-frosted the cubes should be put on full heat for 30-40 secs. This time may vary according to your mircowave rating. Ensure that you stir the food thouroughly and check for any Hotspots before serving.
Q Can I re-heat any leftovers
A Once re-heated DO NOT RE-HEAT again, dispose of any half eaten lleftovers. the great thing about food from The Baby Kitchen is that you are in control of how much you feed your baby at any one time.
Q Some of the cubes have ice crystals on, is this safe?
A This does not mean that the cube is bad, or has freezer burn. This is simply due to the natural water within the food being frozen. Because the food is pureed the water will rise to the top of the cube and freeze, these crystals are merely a 'frost' on the food and not harmful at all.
Q How long will a food cube last once defrosted?
A It is reccommended that you feed the food to your baby on the day it has been defrosted. however if the food cubes were defrosted in the fridge it can last up to 48 hours. (some government guidlines suggest 72 hours although to keep the freshness to a maximum we would suggest within 2 days)
Q Some of the cubes have defrosted and the food is seperated from the water is this normal?
A Yes, don't panic this does not mean the food is bad. For example: If fresh carrotts are steamed and pureed the natural state of the carrott has changed, so sometimes the water will seperate and frost whilst freezing. When it defrosts it will remain seerated. Do NOT dispose of this liquid as this holds many of the nutrients and goodness. In a similar manner to fresh fruit juices, simply stir before and after heating. This will ensure the right texture. If you should find it is still too smooth you can always add baby rice to thicken the puree to suit your babies individual tastes.
Q Can I mix the cubes with other foods?
A Yes indeed, in fact once each food has been established it is good practise to give a wide range of textures and flavours to fully develop your babies tiny tastebuds. As your baby moves onto stage two you can add baby pasta to a combination of vegetables give texture. The fruit cubes are great added to baby porridge, or weetabix for an extra fruit boost for breakfast.
